MANCHESTER MARVELS SEMI-PROFESSIONAL PLAYERS PROJECT
Manchester Marvels Volleyball was set up in 2012 by University of Manchester coach Thomas Atkinson as a place for university students and graduates to play a professional standard of volleyball.
Manchester Marvels Volleyball is dedicated to: providing a semi-professional volleyball programme in the centre of Manchester; producing elite level players, coaches and referees; improving the reputation of volleyball in Manchester and increasing public exposure by showcasing the highest standard of volleyball and attracting support from local organisations and businesses.
Manchester Marvels are very proud to announce that both our Men's and Women's 1st teams are taking the first steps toward becoming Semi-Professional for the 2018-2019 season. The highest quality players in Greater Manchester will be given the opportunity to play for the team. In return for their services, all their training and match costs will be funded by the club; the players will only be required to pay a £60 club registration fee.
The Club is aiming to achieve promotion to Division 1 for both men and women in 2018-2019, improving on last season's 5th place finishes. We also aim to reach the National Cup Quarter Finals; this season the women's 1st team managed to reach the last 16 stage. The Manchester Marvels 2nd teams have also been set the goal of gaining promotion from division 3, with the incentive of becoming semi-professional when they do. For the 2018-2019 season, 2nd team adult players will be required to pay £30 per month and junior players will pay £20 per month.
The Club is very excited about becoming one of the very few semi-professional volleyball clubs in England and we are certain that it will improve the standard of players and coaches not just at the Club, but also in Manchester as a whole. Being semi-professional allows the club to fund its players to train twice a week and play a match every weekend for the 28-week season at no cost to the players. There will also be opportunities for players to earn money working for the club as we start to deliver community, junior and beach volleyball projects.
